Can Finalgen tablebases be converted to syzygy format?

Can Finalgen tablebases be converted to syzygy format?

Postby Danny84 » Thu Aug 17, 2017 9:18 am

I just started experimenting with Finalgen, and I have to say I am highly impressed. However there is one thing I am wondering, namely whether or not the tablebases I generate can be exported into syzygy format (or another standard format, really) for use in Chessbase. Can this be done?

Hello,

I am not an expert on syzygy tablebases, but I think they have been created in such a way the memory space is optimized.
Finalgen, on the other hand, tries to optimize the generation time and produces uncompressed files.

Maybe that conversion is possible, but it is not easy.

It would be better that engines could probe positions directly in Finalgen tablebases. I provided the code to do that, which is available for free download, but as far as I know, engine developers are not much interested.

Well, I am in contact with an professional GUI/engine developer so I would suggest that to him.
Please, provide a link to your source.

Just go to the "download" tab on this website.
Click on "Download FinalGen Interface libraries" at the bottom of the page.
