Windows returned the following code while reading the tablebase:
ERROR_CRC 23 (0x17) Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

I seems that the hard disk is corrupted or another physical problem occurred.
If you can reproduce this error systematically with a proper hard drive, please report me the position, and I will take a look.

The following is only for information:
The error code returned by FinalGen combines three codes:
- Lower 6 bits: It indicates that an error occurred while performing disk accesses and what kind of error.
- Bits 7 to 13: internal Error code.
- Bits from 14: Windows error returned by GetLastError function.

You cannot do much about the two first ones except reporting them to me. But the third one is documented in the following link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms681381%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
In your particular case:
002E3DD = 101110001111011101
The three codes are:
011101 (29) = Error reading a file
0001111 (15) = Error processing a pawn move
10111 (23)= Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

Pedro

One time I also got an error report. I don't know exactly if it was this one but the reason was because my computer restarted because of updates and didn't pause finalgen.
Is there any possibility to fix the files after a restart? e.g. delete the last changes and then start calculating a bit earlier? Or is all so far analysed lost then?
Right now I am analysing a position that probably will take about 1000 hours (according to finalgen) and in this time I fear there definitely will be a Windows update. Any idea how to save all so far calculated?

In most of the cases files don't get corrupted after a system crash. I think you had really bad luck.
However, if a crash happens, you should not "resume" the process, but start it again. Files already generated will not be generated again.

It happened again. But it can not be because of updates this time. Possible that it's the programs fault?
But anyway, I started Windows in "Safe Mode" and could resume finalgen there. Then I restartet my computer and started Windows normally; it went back some % and seemed to have checked till when the files where okay, so this time I didn't lose the data. :)
What should start it again mean? When it asks if it should resume the old analysis, click on no?

Yes, after a crash, you should answer NO to the "resume or restart" question.
I don't know if that will help, but it is better than resuming a process that was not paused properly.

Ok; thx for help, I'll do that next time.
I also heard from other people that the system crashed because of finalgen. Any idea why? Because of the huge amount of data? (uncompressed it would be 9 TB)

If it should happen again, would a crash report by Windows help you to find the problem?
