Interpreting Search for Draw mode results

Interpreting Search for Draw mode results

Postby AylerKupp » Fri Oct 24, 2014 3:35 am

When running in Search for Draw mode a possible result is that "White wins or draws" is indicated for all the moves listed. What does this mean?

a. White wins for each of the moves indicated if it plays the best move each time, draws if it doesn't.

b. White wins for each of the moves indicated if it plays the best move each time <and> Black does not. Otherwise (if Black plays the best move each time), the position is a draw.

Needless to say, the proper interpretation is crucial to determine the expected results from the position. Could you please explain? Thanks.

The result is always the theoretical one, that is, considering the best moves from boths sides
"White wins or draw" just means that, with a perfect play from both sides, Black cannot win the game, but the exact result cannot be determined by FinalGen.
So you should consider that result as the same as "UNSOLVED".

Please note that the result "White wins or draw" can also be possible in "normal" mode.
